Sunday 14th December 2008 Maidstone United Rascals 11 - 1 Rochester BVFC Christmas came early for Stones Ladies as they sated themselves on a feast of goals at a banquet of cornucopian proportions. Rochester BVFC provided the feast as The Rascals celebrated the festivities in style. The Stones started brightly putting the visitors under immediate pressure but it wasn't until the 18th minute that they made the pressure count when a break down the right wing released Amy Nichols to flash over a cross that could only be turned round the post for a corner. Michelle Parker's delivery caused havoc in the Rochester defence and the ball was stabbed home by centre half Rae Walsh. Rita Dorombozi then doubled the lead with her first goal for the club, curling superb shot past the visiting keeper from 25 yards and the game was over as a contest when Nat Larby poked home her 4th goal of the season after Nicky Knight and Kayleigh Love combined down the left. In a game of firsts, Amy Noakes broke the offside trap and smartly finished to open her account for the club and with the first half coming to a close Amy Nichols twice hit the woodwork before Larby grabbed her second and Maidstone's fifth. There was still time for Becky Penfold's powerful shot to be saved by the Rochester keeper. The result was a repeat of the first goal as Parker's corner was despatched by Walsh. At half time Kayleigh Love was replaced by fit again Becky Wood, and a slight shuffle of the forwards saw Amy Noakes pushed out onto the left and Wood partnering Larby in The Rascals attack. The second half started
slowly with The Rascals camped in the Rochester half but it was a further
20 minutes before they got on the scoresheet again. Alison Goddard replaced
Nicky Knight at left back then with 25 minutes remaining, the home side made
it 8 nil, when Walsh completed her hat-trick from yet another Parker corner.
However with everybody pushing up to get in on the feast The Stones were caught
on the break when a corner was cleared and the visitors broke away to score
a consolation goal. Maidstone were soon back at the feast however when a ball
broke to Natalie Larby from a Dorombozi tackle, and she turned and struck
and unstoppable shot that hit the back of the net before the keeper had time
to move. Louise Nixon then replaced Amy Nichols on the right hand side of
midfield, and was soon in the thick of the action when her winding run resulted
in another corner for the Rascals and this time Becky Wood rose well to head
home. With the match winding to a close was just time for Amy Noakes to complete
her hat-trick. |
