Sunday 15th November 2008 Maidstone Primary League Consolation Cup 1st Round Maidstone United Rangers 7 - 2 Vinters Green Coming on the back of two defeats Maidstone came up against an in form Vinters side, currently top of their league and undefeated. Scoring 33 and conceding only 5. The game started brightly with Maidstone having most of the early running. James "Vela" Collie Found himself inside the box with the ball at his feet and struck it instinctively, GOAL!!!. Maidstone kept the pressure on and it wasn't long before he did it again. 2-0. Chris Carter thought he was missing out on the action and struck a venomous shot from outside the box leaving the keeper with no chance and all he could do was pick the ball out of the net, 3-0. Vinters to their credit came out fighting on the restart and showed some of their league form pulling a goal back. At half time the teams went in with Maidstone Leading 3-1. Maidstone came out early from half time eager to get the game under way. Both teams were evenly matched at the restart with the game ebbing and flowing. The Stones however soon regained control. Warren Page broke through and managed to side foot the ball past the oncoming keeper. This spurred Vinters on and they scored their second of the game but The Stones came back again with Warren netting a second goal after putting the ball past the oncoming keeper again. Samuel Richardson opened his account for the season with a strong run through the centre of the pitch and fired a blistering shot into the back of the net. Sammy Swift got in on the action after coming in off the left wing and putting the ball into the back of the net. Apart from the result this was a good team performance, but there is still more to come so watch this space.
