Palace Guards (Keston) 2 -
5 Maidstone United Rangers The Stones were drawn away for the first time in the Kent Junior Trophy on Sunday afternoon and visited Palace Guards at Keston. After a difficult journey they only had 25 minutes to get changed and warmed up before the kick-off.
Maidstone were suprised by the host's long ball game. They were not able to play their own game and fell behind after 20 minutes to a soft goal. The Guardsmen added a second from the spot after a hotly disputed penalty to leave the visitors trailing 2-0 at the break
With nothing going their way The Stones were out early for the second half, waiting for the officials to emerge. After fifteen minutes Rob Jacob pulled Maidstone back into the game, scoring from a corner with a delightful curling the ball into the top left hand corner. This fired up The Stones and shocked Palace Guards who were unable to respond, and Jacob pulled the scores level within five minutes with a ferocious shot from a free kick.
Maidstone were now well and truly on top and Jacob bagged his hat-trick to give them the lead with 20 minutes remaining. He then slotted the ball past the Guards' 'keeper for his fourth after fine work from Martin Batten, before Adam Porter rounded of the scoring to give The Stones a 5-2 win.
A fine second half performance from the whole team, which earned Maidstone a place in the semi-final. |
